Umbilical-Hernia-After-PregnancyThis is known as umbilical hernia. These hernias are more common in women after pregnancy or in people who are overweight.
An incision hernia can occur through the previous surgery scar. Hernias have to be repaired by surgery either by the traditional open operation or by a laparoscopic keyhole approach. The Laparoscopic method has many advantages over the open method.
You could be having a hernia if you notice a lump under the skin of your abdomen which may appear on coughing or straining. A hernia occurs due to development of a gap in the muscles of the abdomen. Straining causes the intestines to be pushed through this weak area leading to a lump. The most common site of a hernia is in the groin known as inquinal hernia. This hernia protrudes through a natural small weakness in the abdominal wall. Another site for a hernia is around the umbilical region where there is a natural weakness of the muscles.
The laparoscopic method requires much less surgical cutting, therefore there is significantly less pain after the operation compared to an open hernia repair, and also this person will be able to return to normal activities much faster as compared to the open procedure.
